Synthesis of field activities, ichthyological monitoring and applied research:
The Danube River basin and the network of mountain rivers in Romania shelter some of the most valuable, yet highly fragmented, ichthyological habitats in Europe. Projects carried out within SEAquaterra are based on direct collection of eco-ethological field data to substantiate real management measures. These data form the technical basis for ecological restorations, halting poaching, and adapting environmental legislation.
Description: Comprehensive identification and monitoring of wintering zones and historical spawning sites for migratory species (sturgeons, Danube shad). Studies focus on population dynamics in relation to hydrological changes.
